According to the IRS, most refunds are issued within 21 days after the return is received and accepted. However, factors such as errors, incomplete information, or additional review can delay processing.

If you claim the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC), the IRS is required by law to hold refunds until mid-February. Refunds for these returns are typically released around February 15.

Yes. If you choose to have your preparation fee deducted from your refund, this option is available.

Keep in mind that any offsets (such as past-due child support, back taxes, or federal debts) may reduce your refund amount before fees are deducted.

  • A valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s license or passport).
  • Social Security numbers or ITINs for you, your spouse, and dependents.
  • W-2s, 1099s, or other income statements.
  • Documentation for deductions and credits, such as receipts for charitable contributions, childcare expenses, or education costs.
  • A copy of last year’s tax return (if available).

You may be able to file as Head of Household if you meet the following requirements:

  • You were legally separated or considered unmarried on the last day of the tax year.
  • You paid more than half the cost of keeping up your home for the tax year.
  • A qualifying child or dependent lived with you for more than half the year (except for temporary absences).
